to Donate: • Types of gifts include: Cash, Real estate, Charitable Remainder Trusts, Bequests, securities, etc. as allowed by the HEEF Gift Acceptance policy. • Unrestricted Category-Allows the HEEF Executive Committee to determine where the gift is most needed • Donor Advise or Designated Contributions - Gift is spent on donor specified projects and activities Donors to the HEEF are individuals like you who care about our communities and recognize the value of education. The Fund is designed to accept, administer, and disburse gifts, grants, and property of every kind from both private and public sources. Other
Giving Opportunities: If you are age 70½ and older and have a traditional or Roth IRA, your IRA can benefit HEEF and provide you with tax savings. The Pension Protection Act signed in August 2006 includes an IRA rollover provision that allows donors the opportunity to exclude up to $100,000 of IRA payouts from their gross income. The provision is only effective until the end of 2007. To qualify for this IRA exclusion, donors must be age 70½ and older and the transfers must go directly from the IRA to qualified charities. A typical donor who will benefit from this provision is someone who is required to take minimum withdrawals from an IRA but does not need the additional income. This IRA option is only approved for tax years 2006 and 2007, so consider making a gift with your IRA if you qualify. Provide for the Future of HEEF We are very grateful to the many people who include the Hopi Education Endowment Fund in their charitable giving. But what if you don't have a lot of cash available right now to give to HEEF? Some ways that you can still provide for the future of education of the Hopi people, without a cash gift right now include: • Gift of personal property-with the HEEF Silent Auction, you can contribute Native American artwork, jewelry, or other items for our raffle. In addition, if you have other collections, personal property or real estate, we can potentially develop ways for you to contribute those as well. • Bequest in your will or trust-it's very simple to include a percentage of your residual estate or a fixed gift amount to HEEF in your will or trust. We can provide you with sample language to give to your attorney or estate planner. • Listing HEEF as a beneficiary of your life insurance or retirement plan-in most states, if you include HEEF, a charitable organization, as an irrevocable beneficiary, you may be able to deduct your insurance premiums. Please contact your tax advisor for more details. • Gift of stock or other appreciated securities-if you have stock that would be subject to significant capital gains if you sold the shares, donating your holdings to a charity may be a convenient way for you to support HEEF and avoid tax consequences. Your Legacy for HEEF In the agricultural tradition, you plan for future planting seasons. Every year, you save some of your seeds for following years. Like planting, you can work on saving seeds for future harvests, by making plans for your estate. The simplest way to include HEEF or other nonprofit charities in your estate is through a bequest. In your will or trust, you can indicate a fixed amount, a percentage of your residual estate, or a bequest for personal property, such as artwork, collections, or real estate. A will or trust is an important legal document, so please contact an attorney for assistance. To assist you with this important decision, here is some suggested bequest wording. Bequest

In accordance with the Indian Tribal Government Tax Status Act, the Hopi Tribe acting through its Tribal Council is recognized by the United States Department of Treasury as a tribal government qualified under section 7871(a) of the Internal Revenue Code to receive tax-deductible contributions in accord with the Treasury Revenue Procedure ruling. The 7871 status is equivalent to a Non-Profit 501 C. 3 status; therefore, all donations to the HEEF are tax-deductible. |
