Our Students: Juanite White

In a past issue of our newsletter, we highlighted Juanita Yava White, a young Hopi/Tewa woman who was pursuing her degree in Psychology from Arizona State University.

We are happy to report that she will be receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Interdisciplinary Organizational Studies during commencement exercises in May. As the first person in her family to obtain a college degree, Juanita shared," My family has told me they are proud and thankful that I have progressed this far. They are appreciative that I can see the need of my people and hopefully use what I've learned to help my people in areas where there is much struggle and hardship."

Juanita would also like donors to HEEF know that, "Their help and support has given me an opportunity that I might not otherwise have had. Their support of HEEF touches the lives of all those who receive the HEEF assistance and it improves the life of those individuals, which, in turn improves the lives of those around us." She added that without the funding she would have never been able to attend college.

Her future plans are continue her education with the ultimate goal of obtaining a Doctorate Degree. She is from the Village of Tewa and from the Kachina/Parrot Clan and her parents are Estelle Yava and Richard White.
