HEEF
Produces Video:
With
funding from their recent Harvard Honoring Nations award, the HEEF was
able to take the next step in their fundraising and education efforts,
as they recently finished production on their first video, "Planting
the Seeds
For Our Children's Future". Through the combined
efforts of Development Consultants "Goal Busters" (Alice Ferris
and Jim Anderson), along with videography provided by renowned Hopi
filmmaker Victor Masayesva, the HEEF completed the seven-minute video
in early July.
The video gives a brief glimpse of Hopi history and the foresight that
the impact of education would have on the Hopi people, and continues
to tell the story of how education is one of the keys to the success
of the Hopi people today. HEEF plans to use to video as an introduction
to the organization for various audiences, which include Hopi tribal
members, donors, and other tribal nations who may be interested in creating
a program similar to HEEF. Executive Director, LuAnn Leonard stated,
"The use of beautiful scenic views, historical photos, and the
personal interviews of students and community leaders gives the viewer
a good insight on the HEEF while leaving them with an interest in learning
more about our unique work."
Starting in late April, the four-month production included many tasks
such as script writing, filming, interviewing and editing. Marketing/Special
Events Manager and Video Director Sam Tenakhongva stated, "The
whole process of developing the concept, to filming, and editing the
video was a great learning process for all involved." He added
that the HEEF was very pleased with the final product and is anxious
to share their work with interested audiences. In conjunction with other
material, the HEEF plans to use the video to help tell their story through
public presentations, as well as including it in the near future on
their website. The HEEF would like to thank the Harvard Honoring Nations
Program as well as all volunteers for their support of the project
