Each year the HEEF provides funding to create the scholarships that are reviewed and processed by the Hopi Tribe Grants and Scholarships Program (HTGSP), we encourage you to reach out to their offices for all application questions, scholarship deadlines, and general information.

Scholarships for the 2023 Fall Semester are now CLOSED

Requirements:

  • Must be an enrolled member of The Hopi Tribe

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate

  • Admitted to a regionally accredited college/university

  • Meet the required Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) for the award/scholarship you are applying for.

  • All documents must be completed and received by 5:00 pm (MST) close of business on the deadline date for application to be considered for funding. Faxed or photo documents are not acceptable.


Documents Needed:

  • Completed Hopi Tribe Grants and Scholarship Program (HTGSP) application

  • Hopi Tribe enrollment verification form

  • Official high school transcript or official GED test scores sent from the school or institution in a sealed envelope (one-time submittal only)

  • Official transcripts from post-secondary school(s) currently attending or have attended sent from the school in a sealed envelope

  • Financial Needs Analysis (FNA) form (completed)

  • Endorsed Program of study/degree

  • The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) becomes available each year on October 1st

    • Check with your college/institution to see when they would like for you to file your FAFSA

    • Review detailed instructions on filling out your FAFSA

The Louis Tewanima Scholarship



The Louis Tewanima Scholarship, in partnership with the Louis Tewanima Foundation, honors the legacy of Renowned Hopi Olympian Runner Louis Tewanima. Tewanima is most known for taking home the silver medal in the 10,000-meter Track and Field competition at the 1912 Olympics held in Stockholm, Sweden.

Four $500 scholarships are available for full-time 2023 entering freshmen enrolled a full-time at an accredited college or university for the Fall 2023 Semester.

Arthur and Gloria Ross Scholarship (For STEM Students)

“While named for our parents, really is a tribute to the many gifted Hopi teachers and artists that so enriched their lives. Art and Gloria Ross were honored to be able to spend time at Hopi, experiencing intellectual and spiritual growth while learning about the culture, religion, and worldview of their hosts. They shared with their Hopi teachers a deep reverence for the land in that area and they were committed throughout their lives to the value of education. Therefore, we can think of no better way to honor them than to contribute to the strengthening of the Hopi community through this scholarship.” – Drs. Elisa and Jonathan Ross

Two (2) $5,000 scholarships are available for two (2) full-time undergraduate/graduate or Professional Hopi students pursuing a degree in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields at an accredited college or university for the Fall 2023 semester.

George Then Business Scholarship

The scholarship was established by George Then to support Hopi students and to promote careers in the Business field. Four (4) $500 scholarships are available for full-time undergraduate or graduate Hopi students pursuing a degree in the Business field at an accredited college or university for the Fall 2023 semester.

Susan Then Science Scholarship



The scholarship was established by Mr. George Then to honor his late wife Susan and to promote careers in the Science field. Mrs. Then, a former High School biology teacher enjoyed all sciences. Four (4) $500 scholarships are available for full-time undergraduate or graduate Hopi students pursuing a degree in the Science fields at an accredited college or university for the Fall 2023 semester.

 Itaasoy Wuwniwuy (Grandmothers Wisdom) Scholarship

The scholarship funded, by retired scientist Mr. Jim Angus to honor the legacy of the late Frances Dawahoya of Bacavi Village. One (1) $1,000, and Two (2) $500 scholarships are available for a full-time undergraduate or graduate Hopi students pursuing a degree at an accredited college or university for the Fall 2023 Semester.
